The 39 Steps

150 characters. 4 actors. 1 thrilling tale.

Alfred Hitchcock meets Monty Python in a bar. The result? Patrick Barlow’s The 39 Steps, a rip-roaring, deeply unserious comedy spy thriller.

Richard Hannay, bored with the humdrum of London life, decides to visit the theatre. There, he meets the beautiful Annabella, but before the night is over he is framed for her murder! With Annabella’s dying words in his mind - who or what is “The 39 Steps”? - he is forced to flee the city, hotly pursued by the police.

Thus begins a thrilling tale of mystery, intrigue, danger, and romance, as Hannay jumps out of trains, escapes plane crashes, flees across the Highlands handcuffed to a different beautiful woman, and falls off the Forth Bridge - all in a desperate attempt to stay alive and clear his name.
